You’ve probably heard about it, looked at it, then thought, “Meh, crappy graphics, no way”, but you may have overlooked one of the most addictive, time sucking, just 5 more minutes, games out there.

[quote:2gt4qkmg]Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens. It also has music by C418! So far 8,579,858 people have registered and 2,354,169 people bought the game. More stats here. [/quote:2gt4qkmg]

Basically Minecraft is a resource collecting and crafting game. You collect raw materials by mining, farming and punching sheep (foraging) then mix them up in different combinations to create either decorative or construction objects.

The goal of the game? Well the goal is basically what ever you want to make it. It’s basically wherever your imagination takes you.

The game costs 15 Euro (About $20 AUS) and is still in Beta so there are plenty of bugs. It is played in a small window, which is not to everyone’s taste.

There is a downloadable server so you can host your own games. Would be fun to get a clan server up [Image Can Not Be Found]

A bit of an idea of what it’s about.[/color:2gt4qkmg]

If you do buy it watch this video first. It shows the basics of the game.[/color:2gt4qkmg]

The Minecraft Wiki is a great resource.

Despite the bugs and windowed format this is a fun little game. It’s not for everybody but if you liked Leggo you should like this [Image Can Not Be Found]

The server is extremely simple to set up. The only bit some may struggle with is the port forwarding on the router but fortunately there is an excellent step by step guide on the wiki. <!– m –>http://www.minecraftwiki.net/w…..t;<!– m –>

This site has step by step instructions for port forwarding specifically for the MC server for hundreds of routers <!– m –>http://portforward.com/english/applicat … rindex.htm<!– m –>

Test it is open using this tool. Just change the port to 25565 <!– m –>http://www.yougetsignal.com/to…..t;<!– m –>

The server seems very stable so far even tho the author warns of many bugs.

Minecraft Beta 1.6.6[/color:y5hsusqv] has just been released.

Unless there are any emergency things to fix, I won’t do any more updates before 1.7. Going to E3 on Saturday.

I will be bringing my laptop to do some development, but I won’t be able to do much testing.

ONWARDS TO THE ADVENTURE UPDATE! *holds up sword, poses dramatically*

1.6.6:

+ Added a new use for bonemeal
* Changed the material of glowstone from “glass” to “stone”. This means you need a pickaxe to get resources from it
* Made glowstone drop more loot
* Made the recipe sizes for creating cloth blocks and glowstone blocks smaller (2×2 instead of 3×3)
* Re-introduced unlimited FPS, renamed the option again
* Fixed beds not working very well at all in SMP
* Fixed destroying a boat spawning the player too low, causing them to sometimes fall through the ground
* Boats float up to the surface quicker
* Boats falling down into water lose their vertical momentum very fast
* Removed Herobrine
[/quote:y5hsusqv]

ignore the Herobrine bit. It’s just a gee up.

OMG you can zoom in!!! Cool. I also had no idea just how big the maps were. No wonder you can have 30-40 people in a map and not see them.

Looks like we have room to expand [Image Can Not Be Found]

[quote:br41z7yg]The world Minecraft takes is randomly generated when you start the game, although you can have some influence on what kind of biomes it has, if you choose. As you explore, the world continues to randomly generate as you move into new areas. This world is nearly infinite. The map can expand to about two thirds the size of the Earth, if it were flat,[/color:br41z7yg] (that’s 24,601.64 kilometers, or 15,286.75 miles across) at which point it is possible to reach the end of the world, referred to as the Far Lands. If you enter this area, the game starts to lag, and the map can become distorted. So far, Markus Persson, a.k.a. Notch has seen no reason to fix this glitch, because as he says, it is extremely unlikely that someone will reach it without cheating, and he likes the idea of a mysterious land beyond.[/quote:br41z7yg]
