No, The BoZ don't Lycra!.. I wear cargo shorts and a singlet and No protective clothing!.. The non protective clothing part just makes me stoopid, but the non lycra, now that's a real bloke.
Brimlad, interesting.. So tell me, What's a good investment over say, 5 years?.. Also, Retiring before you're 50?.. Now that's the ticket.. You musta read rich dad poor dad.
Is that a book ? I don't have my pc near me so google is a no no [Image Can Not Be Found]
5 years you say... cba 60 month term deposit best rate there is atm. never take risks with money you can't lose, seriously.
I wish the seriously wasn't required but most people do take risks they can't afford.
and Easy Boz is a closet lycra man, a mamil in fact, yes we have pics and we aren't afraid to use them hehe [Image Can Not Be Found]
Yes it's a book.. I don't have a pc near me either, which is why I'm able to type here, hahaha.
So I looked up the CBA (Hasn't this thread just been all over the place?) and they have 4.5%.. So my question is, rates will likely go up over 5 years.. Doesn't a term deposit mean it's locked at that rate for 60 months?
Usually what I do is follow the rates and change them every 6 months, I've never tried term deposit.. Actually I being greedy and wanted some kind of double my money in 5 years thingy.
What do you think of what I've said?
Btw, I had to Google Mamil, thinking you did a typo.... Very good.
Your a funny man Boz, but I'm not a financial advisor I'm an econometrician who models financial risk and any advice is personal, not professional.
At your age you do need to be risk averse, as you get older it becomes more difficult to regain loses so you do need to be very careful with your money and work by the bankers creed.. assume nothing trust no one when dealing with your money.
Term deposits do lock up your cash and you will be penalised if your break one though the penalty is just a re-adjustment of the interest, but you need a good reason ie buying a house, medical, that type of thing.
Interest rates will stay low for at least the next 2 years, 5 years is a very long time in forecasting interest rates so difficult to know, especially in this economic climate. I just recently re-invested a term deposit at 4.2 for 7 months which is the best short term rate atm. I choose a 7 month term cause I'm building a new house later this year.
It really comes back to what plans you have for the money; if you just want an income stream from slab of cash you aren't going to use for a while then a long term is okay otherwise you can choose a shorter term and shop around for rates that suit. All the 4 major banks are solid, but you might get a better rate at a small finance shop but with added risk... remember there are no free lunches in finance and if a deal sounds to good to be true then it is.
If a term deposit doesn't suit (they pay interest each 6 months or on maturity) then the next bet is the share market, but you do have to do your homework and devout some head space to understanding the companies you invest in. Revenue stream will vary as some listed companies pay good and bad dividends, but shares a really a long term investment, 10 -15 year cycle of boom and bust so you do have to pick the entry and exit point with care which does take some planning.
lunch time and sry about the long post, but it's never simple.
MAMIL= middle aged men in lycra; not me either I wear shorts over my niks
dawned on me when I retitled this thread; we should just get rid of all the sub forums and just have one big thread, a bit like Apples one button laptop:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.theonion.com/video/apple-introduces-revolutionary-new-laptop-with-no,14299/">http://www.theonion.com/video/apple-int ... -no,14299/</a><!-- m -->
we could even call the thread The Big Log, just thinking -- perhaps not
I agree with all that you say.. I see the topic has changed more appropriately.
I'll type a reply to your above this above in Private if that's ok.
What's a NIK??.. Nickers?.. Do they still say that?.. I've always used the word: "Undergarments"
Now, I just looked at this one button laptop, My gosh, what a slow way to get typing done.. ffs.
